Fundamentals
There are several things no notebook should be without. Think about the following concepts as you write them down.

  • No less than 110% is accepted in class. What does it mean to give a 110%?
  • To master a technique, you must do it 1,000 times. (1,000 times perfectly—doing sloppy technique 1,000 times is doing you more harm than good.)
  • Smooth is Quick. What does it mean to be smooth?
  • Eyes up; Hands up. When should this be the case? (There are actually two situations when this phrase should be going through your head.)
  • FLOAT, PLACE, I AM THE BEST. The three things you must always say to yourself when doing jumping or flying kicks. What do these refer to and why?
  • Have FAITH, QUESTION everything, TRUST nothing. When should these apply? Should they be applied all at once?
  • When you come through the gym door, leave your pride behind you. We all make mistakes, and often the whole class must suffer because of them: Learn from your mistakes, and move on. Sometimes you may be asked to do something you feel is unnecessary: Learn to listen and accept instruction.
